Issue with re-installing OS X after erasing Crucial MX300 SSD

Hi guys,

This is really irking me. I installed the MX300 3 years ago (swapped out the optical drive leaving the original HDD in place). No issue. Got Yosemite up and running on the new SSD. That was 3 years ago.

I had to erase it recently as i could no longer boot from that drive and when I tried to repair it, it said that it could not be repaired and to save down all my data. I did this by booting from the old HDD and using the disk utility to erase the SDD (zero out data option, mac os x journalled)

I’ve now trying to install both Yosemite and also El Capitan on the newly wiped SSD. When I run the installer ( InstallMacOSX.pkg - downloaded from Apple site) and when it gives me the option to select a hard drive, the SSD is unselectable and when i click on it, it says the following “ OS X can’t be installed on this disk. Mac OS X isn’t installed.”

The thing is,

  1. I can see it in the SSD finder window and
  2. in disk utility, there does not appear to be any issues with it, as the SMART status is verified and the partition map scheme is GUID partition table.

In my limited knowledge I believe this should mean that I am able to install the OS X.

Would really appreciate any help here. Should I just get a new SSD?

Thanks

Switch the positions of the drives. You have the SSD on the slower BUS.

When you go to install the system, turn the data and time back to just after the OS was released.

@danj Here's where to find some of the system downloads: https://appleinsider.com/articles/19/11/...

@mayer - Thanks for the link! I’m set with working installers, but it’s nice having a URL for answers here.

How do i do this??

@henrysavoy move the SSD to the hard drive bay. You can figure the rest out from there.
