MacBook Pro wouldn't accept RAM upgrade.

Last month I tried to upgrade my Mom’s 2012 MacBook Pro with this RAM - Crucial 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3/DDR3L 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) SODIMM 204-Pin - CT2K4G3S160BM. It would run for a bit but then crash and never figured out why. The attached picture is the specs for her Mac. I’ve searched all over google for an answer and can’t figure out why it failed.

Replace the old RAM first and get the machine running. Next replace just one stick of the new RAM and see if it works. Now try the new stick in the other slot. This checks both the RAM and the slot. Repeat with the second stick.

Are you getting any beep tones?

I have done what you've said with swapping the sticks before with no luck. It did make a beep tone once it crashed the Mac and I tried to reboot it, which it wouldn't allow it to reboot.

Did it work with the old RAM in place?

из

@mayer it would crash regardless of the combination. So any combo of either old or new caused it to crash too. It does not crash with both old sticks installed though

At this point my best guess would be that the new RAM is faulty or has received ESD damage. Meanwhile, try pulling the old and booting with just one stick of the new RAM. Try it in both slots. Now do the other stick and see if you can identify if both are faulty.

@mayer Alright, I'll have to try that. Thanks for your help, appreciate it.

That RAM should work fine. There must be something wrong with it.

Try reseating the ram. This means taking it out and putting it back in. I would also take an air duster to the slots to remove any dust. If it still crashes, then your ram sticks may be faulty. If they are still under warranty, you can return the faulty ram and you should get a replacement.

I have already done what you've suggested. You might be right about the stick(s)being faulty. Thanks for your input
