Help pin pointing Phat Ps3 BD problem

hello folks,

im trying to fix the Bluray drive of a retrocompatible ps3 (CECHC04) with a BMD-001 daughter board. the issue is the system will take discs but will not read them nor spin them. you can hear the drive make a “click…click..click” (three clicks) sound but nothing happes after.

there is a spinning disc that appears on screen so this should mean that there is at least communication with the optical drive,

what i have done this far is try to replace the drive with one I knew at least read DVDs (but not Bluray games) and interestingly enough the “new” drive behaved exactly the same way as the old (no longer reading either and making that clicking sound)… thinking it was the daughterboard that had failed i tried replacing and remarrying it but im still facing the same problem.

unless both drives are faulty im starting to think the issue could stem from the actual ps3 motherboard?

any and all help would be very much appreciated, thank you in advance

Ps iv tried following the flow chart found on i fixit, this is what made me think it was the daughterboard the problem.

EDIT; ITS A CECHC04 NOT G, the g is a second system I have that I used for spare parts that came also with the same bd drive (BMD-001 and kes/kem400, so either this was one of the firts Gs or someone tried to repair the unit before me....there were signs of stripped screws when i opened it)

EDIT 2; after switching the ribbon cables of the optical unit I can now get the system to spin up the discs but will only read ps2 games

EDIT 3; after switching the lens (with another faulty system) I can now read Ps2 games and DVDs. however Ps1 games dont spin and ps3 games spin a couple seconds stop and restart.... lens going bad?
