How good is this laptop for gaming?
Will be able to play most games on low to medium graphics?

Obviously a MacBook Air will never be a Great Gaming machine, but that’s not what @unbeatable101 was asking…
I used to play on my 2013 MacBook Air on low settings while I was traveling and it was OK. The new CPU/GPUs in this new MacBook Air are much faster, so you would think it would be ok, but looking at the cooling system I am afraid if you start gaming with this laptop it will thermal throttle and keep getting slower as you play.
If you compare to the older non-retina models, those used to have a heat pipe bringing the heat from the CPU directly to a heatsink in front of the fan, but these new models just have a heatsink on the cpu, cooling with the little airflow that the fan can generate through the narrow passages of the case.
In short, no, this is not good for gaming. Cross your fingers and wait for a refresh of the 13” macbook pro with a working keyboard.

This is what I was looking for, thank you. I’m obviously not ever going to get a lower spec laptop for gaming, just was wondering if it would work.
I can also confirm this information about the old macbook air. I have a 2013 mac book air and I was able to play games in low resolution back then. I just recently upgraded this past sunday and knew that I would not be able to play games on it. I just needed it for school anyways. I would have waited for a newer model however, my old macbook air was already being super laggy on me.

Macs are not a good idea for “gaming” unless you spend crazy amount of money to get an average machine and upgrade it, if it is possible at all.
However most macs now do come with Thunderbolt connections, which make external GPU upgrade much easier. You may be able to play some non CPU intensive games if you plug in a decent GPU.

Old games run pretty well on machine no eGPU cap to 30 fps at 1280x800 resolution and medium setting. here are what I play(test) on MacBook Air 2020 .. Fallout 1/2/3 New Vegas ,Skyrim ,Skyrim ,Half Life 2/EP1/EP2 ,Portal 1/2 ,Left4Dead 1/2 ,Borderlands 1/2/Pre ,DOOM(2016) ,BioShock 1/2/Infinite ,Warcraft 3 ,StarCraft 2 ,Resident Evil 0/1/2/4/5/6/7/Revelations 1-2 ,Red Alert 3 ,The Sims 3/4/City ,list go on for old low-end single player game and for online game it fine too but not too pretty. ran around 50-60fps still at 1280x800 resolution and medium setting no cap now depends on internet connection .. CS:GO ,Team Fortress 2 ,DOTA 2 ,LOL ,FIFA 2020 ,Rocket League ,Overwatch ,Fortnite :)

MacBooks are not intended for gaming! Furthermore, in any real sense they can’t be upgraded to be gaming machines. Not while remaining portable.
In this regard, you can buy PCs that are optimised for gaming with super fast graphics cards, top end processors, big and fast disks and other components.
You probably got the Mac for reasons completely unrelated to gaming. Anyway, you’re here, and this Can My Mac Run It guide is for you.

My MacBook Air is for school, and work.
Honestly the only thing I play on it is Roblox, for about 30-45 mins with my kids.
It heats up noticeably. Not a gaming system.
I am going to build a windows/Linux duel boot system this week end and just use that if I wanna get back into anything serious gaming wise down the line.
