MacBook Pro slows down considerably after 15 minutes of use?

I'm using this laptop for an Airmessage server and a Minecraft server. When it boots up it is completely fine, but after 15 minutes or so the cursor starts to lag, the Minecraft server keeps putting out “Can't keep up! Is the server overloaded? Running X ticks behind" after inevitably crashing, even though nobody is using the server ever and there are only minimal datapacks. The Airmessage server isn't too resource intensive but messages feel laggier. Whenever it restarts it goes back to normal for another 15 minutes or so.

The battery was a replacement and had 20 cycles. System information labels the battery as “Normal" condition. It is plugged in at all times. It has 6gb of ram that was harvested from other computers since the original ram and another ram replacement failed before that. It has been doing this lag thing for years, long before the ram failed. Storage is barely used at all since I removed plenty of user accounts It never feels like it gets too hot. Do you know what the problem may be and how to fix it?

Minecraft servers are extremely demanding in some ways, mostly because they are limited to use only one core from the CPU.

This is even a big problem for large Survival servers that are running on really expensive servers.

Using an old laptop as a server isn’t the best way to go due to many reasons, the hardware is often too bad to be able to work as a server, especially for games. But sometimes it may work, but mostly for low-performance tasks.

I know you said that you don’t feel like it’s too hot, but I would recommend you to try this anyway because laptops usually have a problem with getting too hot.

One thing that could help to minimize this problem is to put some kind of distances to add some space between the laptop and what it stands on. This will make a better airflow and help cool the laptop down.

Another thing you can try is to open the task manager and look so there isn’t anything running in the background that you have missed. Hidden programs running in the background may also cause the computer to get slower after some time.

Hope this helps!
