Hi Dan, ya I followed that guide and bought a replacement trackpad from iFixIt: IPD Flex ribbon cable attached the wrong way for a MacBook A1354
But I was curious if the trackpads could be fixed after being shorted. It seems like a waste, the two trackpads have no sign of damage and look good as new. Just felt like it was a waste.
Sorry you likely not going to see the damage as its within the chip,
As to repairing the trackpad after damaging it, I can't say no as I've never encountered this my self. Even still I would say the cost of fixing it will likely be more than replacing it!
First you would need to proper tools to desolder the chip and then you would need a source for the part which is a custom chip soothes you would need to salvage one from a bad trackpad that still had a good one. So far I'm getting close to $300~500 between the tools and just finding one trackpad to get the chip from.
Not good economics if you are only doing one, Home many would you need to fix and you likely would encounter other failure issues. Doesn't sound like a good investment to me.
