No picture after power surge

Hi, we had a power surge and the TV shows no picture now. Backlight and sound still works, can switch through channels. I checked the Mainboard and saw a bad looking chip? See picture please. I've already replaced the T-CON Board. TV is a Samsung UE32F5300

Hi @realhus ,

Which "chip" do you think is faulty as I cannot see one.

Do you mean IC 208 or inductor L203 in the centre of your picture.

Admittedly there are no markings on IC 208 but in the image it looks OK.

Have you tried testing it with an Ohmmeter as you should get some reading between the pins but not usually a short or open circuit measurement?

Can you identify the component that you think is faulty?

Have you tried different inputs or input types i.e. co-ax, HDMI, Component video to see if you get a picture when using them, you didn't say?

Hi @jayeff thanks for your reply! I meant this inductor http://imgur.com/a/QJgqyt2 i think you referenced the same one :)

I've tried all inputs and get sound from those inputs.

I'm not sure which points to check on the Mainboard to see if they're working i can't find any fuses :/

I found a fuse on both the T-CON Board and power supply and they beep when i put the Ohmmeter on

@jayeff how can i test L203 with the Ohmmeter?

Hi @realhus ,

An inductor is just a coil so there should be a very low resistance reading when measuring straight across the connections of the inductor.

If you look at the vacant L701 position below it in the image (or on the board), you can see how the inductor is mounted on the board, just the two connection points

@jayeff thank you again. I checked and the Ohmmeter reads 0.1

Is there anywhere else can i check on the Mainboard to verify it works? I think the Mainboard might be faulty since I already replaced T-CON

@realhus ,

Board level repair without a schematic or obvious damage is very difficult

You have replaced the tcon, the backlights work, the audio works so presumably the power board works as well so this only leaves the mainboard or the panel (did you try the menu screens just to see if they showed?) but yes I think that the mainboard is most likely the problem.

Try finding a supplier that has a good returns policy so that if it isn't the problem it won't cost you as much

Cheers.

@jayeff yes i even did a blind factory reset on the menu :) I will be looking for a Mainboard with returns policy then. I really appreciate your help.
