Minimum components needed to power on?

What is the bare minimum of components needed to power on a late 2009 a1342. I got one in a trade that includes dc board, logic board, battery, top case (in german no less) and bottom cover. do these logic boards have a power on pin short like the a1181's?

I guess to be more in depth what I listed above is all I have....no HD, no ram (i can get both of these from other systems i have) No optical drive, no LCD....if i just hook up the case speakers, dc board, battery, case light should it power on (does it need a fan hooked up to power on?) Also which speaker does the chime come out of, as of right now I do not have the back speaker, just the two in the top case

Last 3 digits 8PY. Thanks for all the thoughts...it seems as though the board may be completely shot. I get no beeps and other than the solid green light on the magsafe, no other lights.

Please recheck those numbers

Oooops 8PW is the correct last 3 digits

No, you don't need a fan, although the board may overheat if you keep it on longer than a few minutes without a fan. You can power on a system that is as minimal as yours, although you're really not going to be able to learn a sufficient amount about it and whether it's working or not without the screen assembly. You can hook up an external display if you have an adapter. Without some means of seeing video, though, and no RAM, you're really just looking to hear some audio beeps (assuming your speakers work). But a board that beeps is still far from being confirmed "good", so I'd get a hold of a screen assembly so you can do some real testing. On second thought the external video is not such a great idea because lots of this model have no backlight (a board issue), which you wouldn't notice on an external display.

This board sure does have pads to short like the A1181, please see picture. Insofar as the rest of your question. I'd start with every thing hooked up. If that doesn't work I would remove everything and see if you can get it to acknowledge that it has no RAM. If it won't do that you are dead in the water. Next I would add 1 stick of RAM if it boots then you know that stick of ram is good and so is the slot. I would move that known good stick of ram to the next slot to see if the slot is good. I would methodically keep up testing it this way until you find the problem child. After Ram has been figured out I would go for the hard drive, then optical, etc..

Please tell us more about the history of this machine so we can better advise you. Please give us the last 3 characters of the serial number so we can determine exactly what machine we are dealing with.

+ with no RAM, bad RAM or a bad RAM bank you will get three beeps and/or three flashing lights.

Keep in mind that you need to have the keyboard cable disconnected when you trigger the power-on pads. If the keyboard cable is connected, nothing will happen when you trigger the pads.

What should i see, does the standby light flash on a normal powerup?
