55" Vizio TV has blue tint on entire screen

We recently got a 55" Vizio TV from family for free and the entire screen has a strong blue tint to it. The screen is blue even when not using an HDMI device - the menu and built in apps all look blue. I tried adjusting the colors in the picture settings but after turning down the blue all the way for most settings there is still a strong blue tint to the entire screen. Model number is d58u-d3

Hi,

Here’s a link that may help. Blue tint on my 65 inch Visio smart TV D650i-b2

Check if altering the settings to those described in the comments (also click on + show 4 more comments) in the Chosen Solution or the Answer below it improve the picture.

If there is no improvement when altering the settings as suggested, then the problem may be the actual LEDs used for the screen backlighting and the LED strips will have to be replaced or perhaps the Chroma chip on the tcon board is faulty.

You could always purchase a TV LED backlight tester - examples only and test whether the blue tint is still there when using the tester to power on the LEDs without the TV being turned on. Just a thought.

How do theses backlight testers work. Do I have to disassemble the TV to test.

Only enough to get the back off and to disconnect the LED power leads from the board

You have to disconnect the power to the TV and then remove the back cover and find the LED power leads.

Not sure if they connect back to the power board or the main board in your model though.

Usually the LED power feeds connector is marked with +LED and -LED on the board near the connector where the leads connect to. Also depending on how many strips or what configuration they're connected in there may be two or more sets (+ve and -ve) of LED power feed leads. So you will have to disconnect the cable plug from the board and connect the tester to each set in turn, i.e. +LED1 and -LED1, +LED2 and -LED 2 etc. Red is +ve and black is -ve on the tester

The backlight tester doesn't use the power from the TV (you have to plug it in to an outlet) and it supplies the necessary power to turn on the LEDs in a strip

If the screen still has a blueish tinge you know it's the LEDs as the TV is not powered on and the LED's aren't connected to the board. You're testing them in isolation

If it appears white then it's not the LEDs.

I'm tempted to just assume it's the LEDs and replace them. 12 strips, around $80 give or take on eBay

@rkasik

Sounds about right.

Here's another supplier if you don't like Ebay.

They get a mention now again on this forum where the parts were obtained from - no complaints that is. There's also a video in the link which shows how to do it

And they give a warranty which some Ebay sellers don't although you can get your money back easier nowadays from Ebay in the event of problems.

Your choice of course ;-)

In all cases where I’ve had blue tint, the backlights had to be replaced. Happens most often on LG TVs

Change Picture Mode

As previously said, a blue tint on your TV could be caused by incorrect picture settings. The best thing you can do is change the picture mode to adjusted.

Furthermore, increasing the brightness of your TV can help eradicate the blue tint. The image is the most accurate technique to set your picture mode.

You can do the same by pressing the "Menu" or "Settings" button on your remote control and selecting "picture settings" or a related option to manually adjust your TV.

Then, among other things, you can change the picture mode, brightness, and contrast.

You can also try the cinema or movie theatre presets for a more realistic image. This will help you acquire authentic colors as much as possible.

On TV, the dynamic Mode can be defined as lively. We recommend using the dynamic mode if you want more vibrant colors.

It would be beneficial if you paused your TV on a blank screen to observe the colors in great detail.

Adjust the brightness with your remote until the blue tint disappears, and you get the best colors without obscurity.
