Black Square on Left side of LCD

Hello guys,

So i have this MacBook Pro 15’’ 2014. The LCD is defective with a black rectangle of the left side of it. It didnt suffer any damage at all.

Block Image

I was wondering if it could be a bad signal instead of a bad LCD because of the shape of it (its a perfect black rectangle from the left border and onwards on the LCD).

So far ive discarded a bad motherboard (tried another LCD) and bad LCD cable (switched cables).

Thank you very much.

Think of the display as a spreadsheet with columns and rows. Each one is a line that weaves across to a given cell which is lit to not. So if the column lines are cut then all of the lines effected are not lit. Thats the case here the display assembly is damaged! You’ll need to replace it.

I’m not sure I follow your actions as the logic board or display cable wouldn’t cause this.

Sadly, this display assembly is in short supply as people are not given up their systems! Here’s a link to the iFixit part which is out of stock 'MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Late 2013-Mid 2014) Display Assembly and here’s the guide: MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2014 Display Assembly Replacement
