Completely dead iMac, black screen, power supply seems to be working?

Late 2009 imac 27’’

I had the imac on a power strip for a few weeks that I would turn off regularly after a proper shut down (I now know that was bad). Suddenly one morning, nothing happens when the power button is pressed. No fans, lights, or anything. There are zero LED lights on the logic board.

I tried various iterations of turning it on and off, replacing the power cord, and removing and replacing the ram. Im getting up to 12v output on the power supply and I can sometimes here it buzz. I tried a “new” ebay power supply and that didnt help the issue.

I am not sure if both power supplies are bad, if there is something wrong with the logic board itself, or would the pram battery need to be replaced?

What does the onboard diagnostic LED’s telling you?

Locate the black covered taped area in the bottom left corner

Here's a breakdown of the onboard diagnostic LED's meaning:

LED 1 - Indicates that the trickle voltage from the power supply is detected by the main logic board. This LED will remain ON while the iMac is connected to the AC power. The LED will remain on even when the computer has been shut down or put to sleep. The LED will turn off only if the AC power is disconnected or the power supply is faulty.

LED 2 - Indicates that the main logic board has detected proper power from the power supply when the computer is turned on. This LED will be ON when the computer is turned on and the power supply is working correctly.

LED 3 - Indicates that the computer and the video card are communicating. This LED will be ON when the computer is communicating properly with the video card. If LEDs 1 and 2 are ON and you heard the startup sound, but LED 3 is OFF, then the video card might be installed incorrectly or need replacement.

LED 4 - Indicates that the computer and the LCD display panel are communicating. This LED will be ON when the computer is turned on and video signal is being generated. If the LED is ON and there is no image on the LCD display panel, the LCD display panel or inverter might be installed incorrectly or need replacement.

Unfortunately there are no LED lights that turn on. There does seem to be power coming through the power supply and it reads 12V using a multimeter.

Is there any way this could be from the pram battery?

@agentafw - Sadly its looking like your logic board has died ;-{

A dead PRAM battery wouldn't effect the diagnostic LED's

I tested the logic board and got 12v power through the 4th and 11th pins. So it seems power is getting to it. Does that confirm that the logic board is dead since its still not starting?

Just because you've got voltage present at the power supply side doesn't tell us anything about the logic board.

Think of it this way... I got gas in the car but the engine won't start. There is a lot of possible causes.

The LED's are telling you the logic board has issues. So you need to decide to find someone with the deep skills to diagnose what's wrong or you could just replace it.
