iMac 4k Display doesn’t turn on after upgrade ram

Hello! This is my first time posting here guys. Well I decide to upgrade my imac 2017 4k ram. (I did it this before few times ago). Well, I did everything like I knew it, But when I turn it on the display doesn’t illuminate or turn on, actually it seems like all the computer is turn off, but if I connect an external display i can see the image and work.

I suspect that its the flex display, because it looks like a dent in one of the connectors side. but I don’t know. Any advice guys!? Thank you.

Yup! Damaged display cable! You’ll need to replace it. 21.5” iMac Embedded Display Port Cable (4K 17/19), Apple P/N 923-01669

Thanks for your reply! The new cable arrived and I already tested and no, that doesn`t fix my problem! :( The screen still black!

Sorry I missed your reply, while you needed the new cable it appears the socket is likely damaged and/or the circuitry on your logic board.

I think you'll need to find someone who has deeper skills to diagnose what's damaged.

Same problem happened to me after replacing the RAM and sealing the display just to find that the display was not turning on. I eventually fixed it but to be honest, I don’t know what was the cause for it. I did my upgrade back in April 2020.

I disassembled it again with the purpose of making sure I properly re-attached every connection and/or making sure I didn’t missed a step. It is very possible that one of the many cables that was disconnected was not properly reconnected (pushed all the way in). You don’t need to reassemble the display to test if everything is properly connected since there are three or four diagnostics LEDS that will progressively turn on when powering the unit. The last LED is for the display test, which will fail (not illuminate) if the display is not connected. If all LEDS turns on except the display, then you know that everything is working properly except the display (which is not connected). Then you can proceed connecting the display to verify its functionality.

You may Google regarding about the diagnostics LEDs for more information since I can’t recall what each LED display represented.

@itsborgi - Did you checkout the image? The cable was damaged. So the OP needed to start off getting a new cable. Sadly, the damaged cable has either damaged the socket and/or the circuitry was shorted out as well.

Makes sense in what you said. Looks like more things needs to be diagnosed to confirm what else is damaged. I will say that the assembly quality of Apple products is not the greatest.
