Screen turns grey with colored pixels sometimes

Im not sure why but for the last day often when i turn the screen on (tablet has not been powered off for last few days), it shows a grey background with colored pixels sometimes. I need to turn the screen on and off a few times for it to go away and once its gone, i dont notice any problems with the screen.

Any idea why its doing this? Is the tablet finally dying?

P.S. The tablet has never been dropped. In terms of repairs i changed the battery around 8 months ago but its only started doing this in the last 24 hours.

Hi @ruok2bu ,

Some things to try to determine if it may be a software issue or a hardware issue:

a). Wipe the cache partition and then check if it still happens.

b). Start the tablet in safe mode and check.

If it doesn’t happen when starting in safe mode then a downloaded app is the cause of the problem. The trick is to find out which one. You will need to uninstall each downloaded app, one by one and test the tablet in normal mode between each uninstall to check if it works OK. When it does then the last downloaded app that was uninstalled was the cause. A downloaded app is one that you downloaded and installed in the tablet and not one that came pre-installed when you got it.

c). Factory reset the tablet.

Be aware that a factory reset will erase all your data and downloaded apps so if you decide to try this, backup the tablet to the cloud or a computer, before performing the factory reset, using the tablet’s backup feature

Once the backup has been completed, first verify that you remember the tablet’s Google account user ID and password as you will need it to access the tablet after it has been reset (Google FRP lock) Factory reset the tablet by using the tablet’s factory restore feature. Once it has been restored, check if it works OK.

If it works OK when factory reset (try a few times to make sure), using the backup performed earlier, restore the tablet using the tablet’s restore feature. Once it has been restored to what it was, check that it still works OK. If it does then the reset has resolved the problem.

If it doesn’t work OK when factory reset then it is a hardware problem.

Here’s the ifixit Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 repair guide that will help you to open the tablet and check that the screen video flex cable is securely connected to the systemboard.

If it appears to be OK then all you can then try is to temporarily replace the screen and check whether it still occurs or not to find out if it is a screen problem or a systemboard problem.

Open it up and check the screen ribbon is seated all the way into the board connector. I've had samsung tabs in for repair that customers thought they needed a new screen. After re seating the ribbon worked again and never came back. I'd check it, especially after you say the battery was replaced.
