Why won't my Windows detect my Dualshock 4 controller?

So I've had this issue with my controller for a while now and what I do is I plug it in a different USB port and it works, this time it didn't.

When I press the PS button on the controller it enters pairing mode and it doesn't find a device to connect to even though it is connected to my PC via USB. After that it just indicates that it's charging by blinking orange, so my USB port isn't damaged. I opened the Device Manager and it didn't show up there either as a controller or a Human Interface Device

Things I've tried:

-Switching ports

-Restarting my System

-Restarting my controller manually

-Connecting via  Bluetooth

-Disconnecting my Keyboard

-Pulling the power cable out of my PS4

-Viewing the disabled devices (didn't show up there either)

I really need help

Hi @andjibilic ,

It seems as though there may be a problem with the data connection between the controller and the PC.

Have you tried a different compatible USB cable, you didn’t say?

Use a strong light and a magnifying glass to visually inspect the controller’s USB port for any damage or to see if there is anything in the port enclosure that may be preventing a good electrical connection. Also check that all the pins are there and that they are all straight and parallel with each other and not bent, broken or missing, especially pins 2 & 3 as these are the two data pins

If there is any debris etc in the port, do not use a pin or probe to try and get it out, try using a vacuum cleaner to try and suck it out instead.

Does the controller ever fully charge?

Just wondering since it doesn’t work with BT either whether there is a power problem preventing the controller from working correctly e.g. faulty battery so that when connected by USB not enough power to charge the battery and operate the controller and when using BT not enough battery power either.

Here’s the ifixit DualShock 4 CUH-ZCT1 repair guides which may help if you decide to open the controller to check if anything is wrong etc.

Hey @jayeff

Thanks for your answer.

I'll try a new cable that is a great idea.

The controller has been opened and checked and it seems fine.

It charges fully and as I've said it works perfectly on the PS4. I can try looking at the port but I don't see anything with my bare eyes. The controller is also currently fully charged. I've tried to blow off any debris with a compressor but that didn't help.

And also the controller won't connect via Blueetoth either, not even on my android.

Do you have any other things to try out?

Thanks again.

I've just checked the pins, they all seem fine.

I've just tried another cable and it worked! I knew I missed something obvious. Thank you a lot and I'll try to figure out why bluetooth doesn't work by myself. Thank you so much
