Doesn't have a SSD and I don't have another Mac to download OS-X

I tried to make a bootable USB but then I saw that it doesn’t have a USB 3 port so I tried a USB 2 and still didn’t see it, should I get a new hard drive for $30 or is there a different way.

I have tried to use the commands control R but nothing also seemed to happen.

I don’t have another Mac so is there a way to download the OS-X from a Windows PC?

Can you give us your exact model as Apple has quite a few versions. Plug your systems S/N here EveryMac - Lookup Let us know what you find.

the sticker on the back is torn off but on the battery it says its module is A1322 I don't know if that will help.

Well that's the battery part number not the system ;-{

So that tells us you have a 1MacBook Pro 13" Unibody A1278 Mid 2009 to Mid 2012 Here's the P/N for reference MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Mid 2009-Mid 2012) Battery

That still covers quite a few models ;-{

As you can see they all look very similar MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Look through these can you point yours out?

@danj I'm pretty sure that it is the Mid 2009 Model A1278 I also bought a SATA cable for it and it says that model but I wasn't sure is it was for that model only. Is there a way to download and run mac OS X on a mac from a windows PC?

Sadly, I have yet to see anyone successful in doing it. You really need a Mac to create a bootable OS installer. Do you have a friend or can get to an Apple Store who will allow you to prep up a fresh 32BG thumb drive. Bring a still sealed in packaging the thumb drive so they know its virgin.

So download OS-X El Capitan (10.11.6) from here How to get old versions of macOS it is the highest your system can run and follow this guide to setup your thumb drive How to make a bootable OS X 10.11 El Capitan installer drive. Just make sure you first format the thumb drive with GUID and journaled file system.

I’m suspecting you are also hitting the SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) issue as you can’t use most SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) drives in this system. For reference note the interface line in this Samsung 860 EVO spec sheet You can clearly see this drive offers auto sense adjusting its I/O speed to the systems port. Most drives today are fixed speed only running at SATA III. So if the spec sheet doesn’t state it works at SATA II don’t use it!

can I download it on a portable hard drive?

@UKRGaming - USB Flash thumb drive, Hard Disk Drive (HDD), Solid State Drive (SSD) connected either by USB or FireWire. Or, used an optical disk CD or DVD.

In all of these the method is the same! Making the drive bootable as I outlined above.

i tried to connect a external ssd into the MacBook and it didn't see it. it was formatted to exFAT and still couldn't reed it does there need to be a OS on there to see it?

из

@UKRGaming - First format the thumb drive with GUID and Journaled File System (HFS+).
