LCD Stain in my MacBook Pro 13" Late 2011

I got a second-hand MacBook Pro 13” Late 2011 from a friend. I previously changed its battery, RAM, and HDD to SSD.

The display has stains inside which I believe it’s under the glass. It has been like this when I got it. I just wanted your help if you could help me diagnose and which I should fix. I have never removed the glass and I just removed the screen protector which dismissed my early hunch that it may be due to that.

@presteejious - Well you’re in luck! The unibody models cover glass can be removed to get to the other side and get to the LCD panel as well!

Here’s the guide you’ll need to follow MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2010 LCD Replacement

You’ll want to be very careful cleaning the LCD panel. I would recommend using a clean feather (get one from an arts and crafts store and wash it well with dish soap and water and then again with reagent grade isopropyl alcohol 85% or better) to dust it off. If its stained use a chargeable spray can like this one True Power Rechargeable Sprayer loaded with isopropyl alcohol so you can wash it. The trick is not touching the surface.

Are you sure it’s a stain under the glass and not the anti reflective coating that is getting loose? If it’s the coating you could try to remove it completely, there are some products and wipes that can help you with that, but do note that once you removed that coating your screen looks like a mirror when it’s off :-P very reflective, hence the name anti reflective coating ;-)

If it’s really under the screen I’m afraid you can only replace the display assembly as a whole. I don’t believe it’s possible to disassemble the glass to clean it. You can buy the part through iFixit, but it’s an expensive 250$ part (MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Early 2011-Late 2011) Display Assembly) so if the stains are not bothering you, I wouldn’t do anything :)

Here is the guide on how to replace the screen if you’re going to do it: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Late 2011 Display Replacement

Ahhh, okay. Looks like it’s way under the glass. It’s somewhat underneath because I can see like my cursor is floating on those. Well, I can tolerate it for now. I bought this so I get familiar with Mac before making the expensive switch :) may not be practical to replace it though unless i get one for a great bargain
