Is soldering required to replace *just* the digitizer?

I have a 2nd gen iPad Pro 12.9” and about a month after I bought it, it got dropped and cracked the digitizer. I finally found a decently-priced replacement and was looking at repair videos. To my alarm, it looks like the repair involves microsoldering. Is this the case? Is it literally easier (but ridiculously more expensive) to buy the full LCD assembly with the daughtercard and replace that instead?

Not only it requires soldering but plenty of other tools as well since the digitizer is glued to the display. Display - glue - digitizer - glue - glass. Older iPads had it separate making the replacement a lot easier. The part you need to desolder has chips on it which I believe are married to the motherboard. No matter what screen or digitizer you get you’ll need to desolder it and solder it onto the new assembly.
