Screen goes black past 90°

My screen has gone black after going past 90° and won’t then come back on, probably an issue with the ribbon cable I would’ve thought, so we ordered the ribbon cable. But looking I can’t seem to find where that goes.

this is the one we ordered but not sure if it’s the right one, if it is what do we have to do to fix the machine since most places are just recommending a full screen replacement. Please let me know if there’s anything we can do

Nope! That cable is not flexing so it couldn’t be the issue! The cables from the T-CON board to the display are under flex and in your case the backlight cable was made too short as seeing in this image

The best thing you can do is carefully put your system back together and take it to a Apple Store or Apple authorized repair center for them to fix this under the extended warranty program Apple has for your system. You may need to fight for it! So be nice to the front line folks, lean on the manager and walk your way up the food chain until you get a yes. You may need to talk with your local consumer protection groups as they say the squeaky wheel gets the grease! Go slow and steady through the process.

If you can’t then you have an expensive repair! As you’ll need a new display assembly!

Hello thank you for the help, I've had a look at the issue listed here and it says "Note: No other Mac notebook models are part of this program." and does not include my macbook model in the article as mine is a 2017 rather than a 2016.

Do you know roughly how much this will cost me if I go to Apple to get it fixed? The date purchased was in that timeframe but obviously they don't want to repair all the laptops with these problems.

@harryget - Have faith! The manager can wave the requirement as a warranty exception!

Print out the two articles and flash them if you get push back. Apple messed up! They owe you!

It will cost you somewhere between $500 (used) to $700 (new) USD for the part and the labor cost (bench fee).
