Battery Sense Connect connector lost a pin...
So, I was cleaning a customer Macbook Pro the other day and happened to notice that when the Battery Sense Connect cable was removed that it yanked one of the pins out with it. The pin that was pulled I had thought was the bottom (In the picture, and also in relation to the motherboard, it’s the closest to the battery) pin and from what I can see as far as which data paths are used, doesn’t actually do anything. I don’t know if it’s used as some sort of ground, or what else it might be for, so I’m looking for some info. But as I’ve looked at it more, maybe it was the top?
I finished cleaning the system and reapplying thermal paste to the CPU & GPU, put everything back together and did some testing. The system works fine, the battery both charges and discharges without any issues, it registers in the system as it should and there are no errors anywhere.
However, if the system goes to ‘sleep’ it doesn’t wake back up (Or, more aptly, it seems to crash and have a black screen with backlight and the touchbar is lit up but non-active) when opened. And the only option is to hold the power button to turn it off and start it again.
I’m wondering if the pin that was pulled has any affect at all on the mentioned behavior, or if this is something that I should chase down via. software. I cleared SMC, VRAM/PRAM, upgraded to Big Sur and haven’t noticed any change in the behavior.
This is all to help me decide weather trying to replace the connector is worth the effort here. (I have a microscope and soldering equipment, including insulated jump wires if need be, but, if going through the effort and potentially damaging the board isn’t going to help, then I don’t want to risk it)
Update (08/17/2021)
I just looked at the A1707 schematic in OpenBoardView and it... doesn't seem like the pin is active?
