Adhesive Removal Blues - ipad7

I need some assistance. I’m trying to change a cracked screen on an iPad 7. The screen is not coming off at all despite that i’m applying heat using the iopener and the heat gun. The customer told me that he never took that ipad to a repair shop so we both agreed that Apple sealed that sucker real hard. It sucks that they are preventing us to work on their products. #rightorepair

I would love to receive some assistance, any tips would be appreciated.

Some here is an update guys. I’ve got the CPB mat and it worked like a charm. The second ipad, I was able to take off the screen without making much mess and did get that metal pry tool.

So i’m having bit of an issue opening the iphone 11 pro max. The CPB mat has iphone mode so what is the recommended temperature (in Celsius) and how long should i set it on the mat?

This video should come in handy. I know it’s cracked and you may or may not have a heat mat but a heat gun should do just fine. The factory seal apple uses on these things it pretty tough but you should be able to get it off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRaxvV05...

Once you get it off, use some acetone and q-tips to get the old adhesive residue off. It’ll help the new screen adhere better.

Okay, i'm thinking about getting that heat mat since my heat gun is not working at all. How many minutes should i leave it on the heat mat before opening it?

@uitadmin the heat mat is designed to be worked on. Meaning you let the device heat up for a few minutes and then get to work. I have mine set to 65C and let it get up to temperature before putting the device on with the back facing down and the screen facing up. From what I've heard, people have damaged LCDs by putting the screen on the surface of the heat matt for too long.

Around 70-80 Degrees heat. Let that heat “soak" into the glass edge to soften the adhesive, then use a drop of isopropyl. Will come off lovely when done right. But not too much iso, as you could get it in the backlight layers.

What tool are you using to pry the glass?

I would say 75c is enough.

I used the picks that ifixit sell plus a jimmy knife. I can go for the tool from the video that the first response on this thread.

What I find really good to remove the iPad screens in one piece, is plenty of heat and some iso, use the suction opener tool (they have handles you squeeze which pulls the screen off) and gently use this along with the really thin plectrums or laminate sheets which are sealed up.

Then keep the glass hot, with a drop of iso as you SLOWLY go around the glass.
