convert non-touch to touchscreen laptop, fixing design flaw on UX481

hello. I want to get an Asus Zenbook Duo UX481 because it has proper arrow keys and a good battery life, however the lack of touch in the primary monitor is beyond stupid and it is a bit of false advertising judging by the product pictures.

Thus I want to grab one off ebay and solve the problem by replacing the panel. Any tips on how to perform this idea?

Hi @mzlink ,

I don’t know but looking at the parts for a Asus UX481FL (and also UX481FA) it shows that there is a touch board (part # 90NB0P60-R10020) presumably to interface the touchscreen with the motherboard.

The part number for a UX481FL-1A 12.61 FHD LCD WITH TOUCHPANEL, TOP CASE AND TOUCHPAD is 90NB0P61-R20010 (this is the same number for both models)

There is no mention of a separate touch screen cable to connect the board to the display so I don’t know how that is achieved.

Hopefully this may give you some ideas.

I'm not sure. Part of the problem is that this would require hooking up a "second" touch input elsewhere somehow as i don't think you can shoe-horn it into that adapter board. (since it is already got one touch sensor).

They solved it on the "Pro Duo" models but those have the dreadful small arrow keys i hate.

@mzlink

Maybe just replacing the original board (if that's what you mean) with one that is compatible to the new screen may be enough. I don't know

how they solved it with the "pro duo" is apparently two boards. https://www.asusparts.eu/en/asus/noteboo...

I'm starting to think this fix wont be possible due to lack of space...
