Is the trackpad on my 2015 MB Air not working because of a small cable

Why disassembling it, I accidentally broke the port of this small cable off:

The port came off with the ribbon cable, and it would be difficult to reattach it with either tape or superglue so that the pins on the bottom of the port and on the circuit align correctly. The bigger cable next to it, the one that connects the trackpad to the motherboard is intact.

I can still move the mouse around with my track-pad, but I need more force for gestures like double swipe for scrolling(that could be because I had liquids on the trackpad’s surface). Could I be having problems with the trackpad because the cable broke? What does this cable on the trackpad do?
