When opening makes sticky noise

So I recently had an accidental spill of soda on my macbook…

Apple fixed it their service depots in Memphis Tennessee and sent it back to me and now every time I open and close it after letting it sit for a few hours it makes a sticky noise my husband thinks it might be the ribbons were the hinges and I was wondering if anybody knows how to fix this problem without taking it apart or sending it the Apple waiting even longer for further repairs that they didn't seem to completely do in the first place.

They also supposedly fixed the TouchID button but that seems to be sticky as well I tried doing my best to clean it but it still feels and sounds very sticky when opening the system and playing around with the button seems to fix the problem for a little bit and then it goes back to sticky after leaving it alone for a while

To start with the 2010 13" model doesn't have a TouchID so we are clearly talking about a different system!

So when did you buy the system and are you sure its a 13" not a 15"?

We really need to correctly ID your system before we can aim you to what's needed.

Think of it this way you have a VW beetle and I aim you to a Chevy 4x4 engine overhaul not very useful is it!

It's a macbook pro 2020.

@santasbaby2020 - Getting warmer! 13" or 15"

And how many Thunderbolt/USB-C ports 2 or 4?

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)

@santasbaby2020 - Great! Now we have a firm idea which system.

If you remember where the majority of the spill went would be helpful in knowing how far you’ll need to go.

Reference this guide MacBook Pro 13" Two Thunderbolt Ports 2020 Display Assembly Replacement jump down to Step 21 we’re not taking the system fully apart here just gaining access to the hinges. The coils you see are a clutch mechanism using some cotton swabs (Q-Tips) wipe them down slightly damp with distilled water to remove the sugars from your spilled soda. Be careful! You don’t want the wet to travel into your system! Use a can of can’ed air to blow any moisture away (into the corners).

Then get some WD40 spray into the cap to concentrate the spray >> Do not spray into your system directly!! << Now dampen a clean cotton Swab with the WD40 in the cap and wipe the coils (it doesn’t take much!) see if that solves the problem.

The next direction is the ribbon cables. Here we do need to follow all of the steps to Step 29 in that image you can see the two retraction springs and their belts which help rollup the ribbon cables.

Using the same method we applied on the hinge clutch mechanism we need to wipe the coils in the same way and in addition the strap which rides along the ribbon cables will also need to be wiped down with distilled water making sure all of the sugars are removed. but instead of WD40 we need clean talcum powder (no perfume or dyes) again its not quantity its an ultra thin coating to prevent the chaffing of the two surfaces.

This is what will be needed are you up to the task? Any mis-step can make a bigger mess! Maybe you should locate an independent shop who has the skills to do this (this time paying).

I would leave the TouchID button alone! If you mess up that’s the end!

As I mentioned previously in the comments I don't believe it's coming from the hinges or ribbon cables agywe performing a light experiment with the scotch tape. I think it may have something to do with the loda magnetic function. It seems to be somewhere along the edges of the laptop lid/top

из

@santasbaby2020 - There is no moving parts along the other three sides. If you have wiped the surfaces there just can't be anything sticky to glue things.

The magnets within the lid and upper case are anchored securely its only the magnetic flux which adheres the lid to the upper case (magnetically) when the lid is closed.

Trust me the clutch mech is the issue!
