Sounds coming from my internal power supply. Do I replace it?

Just want to double check and see if anyone experienced the same issue. I believe it’s the power supply causing my Xbox to not function properly but not even sure if the internal power works the way I imagine it to. I’m uncertain if the entire motherboard is screwed but the sounds in the video come the power supply after receiving power.

Actually I suspect the PSU is fine, it sounds like the board is trying to draw power, but there is a short somewhere, the huge current triggered protection and it shuts down and retries in a few seconds.

The sound is called inductor whine, it happens especially under high load.

Would you know what I need to fix this issue? My Xbox can still power on but it seems like it doesn’t have enough power to fully boot the system so it just stays on with a black screen. I’m planning on buying a replacement internal power supply soon to see if it will fix my issue but I’m still pretty set on replacing the unit first since I know what the supply is supposed to sound like. When I plug in the power supply while it’s disconnected to the Xbox it makes the same sound near the end of the video for a infinite/indefinite amount of time. I’ve had issues before with my Xbox and it would eventually work after a day or two but it’s been about a week and it didn’t fix itself this time. If the power supply change doesn’t work I will try determining where the short is coming from. Really appreciate the help!

@Chinas Legacy You can't know for sure unless you try it out. My guess is it has nothing to do with the power supply, it's something on the board, find the issue and fix the board.

I replaced the power supply today, reset my Xbox and did a offline system update and it fixed it! I’m not exactly certain what the entire issue was but here’s what I did step by step after replacing the supply:

1. After obtaining my usb with the osu when my Xbox automatically opened the troubleshoot menu(aprox 20-30 mins but my old power supply wouldn’t open it before) I put it in the Xbox

2. The offline update button was still grayed out but my usb has a led that tells me if there’s a connection (it was on)

3. I decided to see if I were to reset my Xbox including deleting all my games and apps while in the troubleshoot menu while the usb was plugged in to see if it were to reset and load the reset properly

From there it just magically worked even though I still have no clue if I needed to replace the power supply. Before I couldn’t even access the troubleshoot menu (waited hours and safe mode wouldn’t open manually) but after the new power supply and 30 mins I could access the troubleshoot menu.

@Chinas Legacy Then it is just a shot PSU.

The weird noise probably happens because the PSU cannot handle the demanded power output, either because there is a short in the board, or the PSU itself is messed up.

It might be the HDD as well
