Is this battery look like I need to change it?

Just to make it clear, the reason I said this unit shouldn't be a deterrent to fix a nicely equipped surplus laptop like this is things like this happen with batteries.

Am I happy? No, but like the trackad, SSD, screen and RAM are already replacements, so I've changed a fair bit so far (thankfully with spare parts).

Approx 80% is still good. A lot depends on how quickly it discharges when in use.

Question is why is the oem battery more expensive in the USA than in Aust, especially when doing the currency conversion?

@jayeff The disturbing part is how it failed diagnostics, but works. Maybe it's a false flag in the permanent memory I can overlook.

As long as it isn't a safety issue and charges, I'm probably going to ignore the failure until it tanks to the low 70% range.

Quick look shows that it discharged 46% in just under 2 hours so depending on what it was doing in that time it may last for say 3 - 3.5 hours before needing to charge it.

it also seems that it comes back to its full charge value (even though this is only 78% now) and is not dropping with every recharge.

IMO Its got a bit of life in it yet but it may depend on how it's used e.g. high resource utilization i.e. gaming, videos etc will affect it more than normal everyday use etc

@jayeff Yeah - probably just about tired (which isn't unheard of for some G5's which were wall queens that lived on the adapter), but if the fuse blow error is false and doesn't hard stop charging I'm not in a rush.

I think mine lived on the power adapter for years and it partially killed the pack. Having to change as much as I did isn't fun, but I'd rather change things out as I have then hope it doesn't get scrapped because someone is worried it'll just keep breaking.

If it keeps breaking down and I have to change the motherboard, I can use the screen in the G5 I had to erase as a stopgap measure while I source a 4K LCD.
