Start button won’t do anything - Neff dishwasher

I have a 10yr old Neff dishwasher - integrated. The rest of the control panel works and the start button physically presses down - but won’t start cycle.

The pump seems to be working (makes a noise when turns on)

Model = SS1MSX1GB/29

Hi @doc_norman,

Please verify the model number as searching for it online produces no results.

How do you get the pump to turn on if the Start button is not functioning or is it intermittently working?

Thanks Jayeff. When you turn the machine on you can hear the pump priming.

Model = S51M53X1GB

Just querying as you stated that "Start button won’t do anything ....." and "....the start button physically presses down - but won’t start cycle." so why is the pump working if the cycle hasn't started?

Does the dishwasher fill with water before you press the start button?

If the pump is working are the spray arms turning? Place the spray arms in a remembered position and then "start" the dishwasher. When you hear the pump working allow about 20-30 seconds and then open the door and check if the arms have moved from the position that you left them in. Be careful that the water may spray out if the arms haven't quite stopped. Open the door slowly.

It is the pump forcing water through the spray arms that causes the arms to move.

Thanks - when you turn on you hear the pump make a couple of noises. Then the time comes up on display - you normally press start, close the door and cycle starts.

Now I press the on button, hear the pump prime, time comes up on the display - but I then press start, but nothing happens when I close the door. The actual start button works (as in physically you can feel it presses down) but the cycle doesn't start at all when you close the door. So can't test as above as when you close the door it beeps (as though not set) and then does nothing...

Does that make sense?

Hi @doc_norman ,

I don't think that it is the pump your hearing but the water inlet solenoid being turned on to test that there is a water supply available to wash the dishes.

There is a reed flow meter (supplier example only) that operates when water flows past it in the machine.

If it does, the flowmeter signals the control board to allow the dishwasher to start.

The logic is that if there is no water available, there’s no point in starting the machine.

I can’t find a parts diagram for your model so unfortunately I can’t tell you where it is located. I had a similar problem with my Bosch dishwasher (Neff and Bosch belong to the same group of companies I believe) and the flow meter was the problem. It was located on the left side of the dishwasher but this doesn’t mean that it is in the same location in your model.

Just something that I’d check.
