Dishwasher not draining in cycle - Hotpoint Ariston

Hello

My Dishwasher is LFTA+3214HX. Its pretty much the same as LFTA 3214.

The problem is that during the cycle at one point the dishwasher is stopping with one beep and then a 3 is flashing rapidly. I checked that this is a draining issue. So stopped the power, cleaned the water, cleaned the junk, emptied the hose (as much as I can), plug it again and then voila - it started. But... A couple of days later same problem. What I have found.

Everything is clean. The Dishwasher is stopping during a cycle while it is full with hot water or without any water during the drying cycle. All the dishes are wet or nearly dry-steamy. And with the detergent in (the detergent door is opened and the water is soapy when there is water). Sometimes it is nearly dry inside, like there is no water but during the drying cycle it tries to drain one last time of any residual water and then it stopes.

What have I done:

  • When I open the door it's either fill with water or not , but the 3 is flashing rapidly (Error 3 means can't drain). I stop it. Then start it again, then choose a program and close the door. This should initiate a drain cycle. But nothing happens. Just a quite humming noise and nothing. After a while it beeps again and the Error code 3 starts to blink rapidly.
  • After that I unplug the device from the mains. Push the on button a couple of times, plug it again and again start it with a program. Nothing, I hear a small humming, but nothing. Just like the previous case.
  • Then I though what have I done the first few times that it worked. As there is no blockage, everything is clean. And... I have unplugged for a longer time period (to clean all the water with a sponge, drain the hose, etc.. ). So I unplug it from the mains and wait like 15-20 minutes or so. Then plug it again. If there is water inside it automatically drains it, even if the door is open. I even filled the machine manually with a bucked while it was draining with hot water (from the tap) and it continued to drain until empty. And it drains fast. Like 10-12 liters it sucked it in like 30 seconds. After that I start the cycle, then it makes the usual drain cycle immediately after start and continues. But after a while it stopes. Again with the same Error code 3 - problem during draining. And the only thing that is consistent that it stopes while it is hot. The first cycle should be just a rinse cycle to remove the big chunks and heavy grease. I'm not sure if it uses hot water in this cycle. After that it fills it with hot water and releases the detergent. I believe that it stopes after the first rinse cycle is finished - during the later cycles as all the times it had the error the detergent door was open and I close it every time I test the unit to be consistent.
  • The thing is that even if I leave the unit to cool down an hour - the drain will not start if it is not unplugged for 15-20 minutes. And if I unplug it rite away (with the door closed do keep as much of the heat inside) and tested after 20 minutes it drains, but only until the next program. That unplugging for a longer period acts like a restart of some sort. But I'm not sure what it is restarting.

  • I think that the problem is not mechanical ( blockage) as it fixes after I unplug the unit for 20 minutes and after that it appears again while hot. The pump is DRAIN PUMP 45-60 CM EOS - J00238010, Code: C00272301. They are calling it a magnetic pump. Maybe it gets faulty while it's hot enough (soaked with the heat in the washing or drying cycle).
  • I can get a new pump fairly cheap and try to change it, as it does not seam to be very difficult. I'm not sure if there is any flap in the drain hose, that could get stuck, but why it gets open when I unplug it for 20 minutes?!
  • But could it be the logic board - while it gets heated it faults?

*

  • Thank in advance.

Well I did replace the draining pump with a new unit and that fix the problem.

An aftermarket one but still made in Italy. It's cheap, like 18 Euro (The original is 36Euro). The money were not the problem, the delivery time was. The aftermarket was on stock, the original has a 14 days delivery time. And it did fix the problem. 8 or 10 Cycles now and it is working. I do believe that the old pump was having an issue when it gets hot. And when it got cold enough it started working again, or it did register an error to the main board that resets after 15-20 minutes without power.

The changing is very easy. Actually the most difficult and time consuming thing was detaching all the hoses under the sink, maneuvering them out and reinstalling them back, as well as removing and inserting the machine back to it's original place, as it is a built-in unit. Top-tip wrap a rubber glove with a rubber band around the drain hose as you can not drain all the water until the unit is out and lifted a little bit, so that gravity can do it's work. That way the glove will contain all the water. This took like 30 minutes. The actual changing of the pump is pretty easy, you only need a small flat screwdriver to open the bottom cover. Tilt the machine to one side, open the bottom cover, carefully remove the cable on the flood sensor, then look where the drain hose goes and there is the pump. Press the retaining pin and unscrew the pump. Remove the pumps cable and insert it onto the new one, there are guiders on the cables, so you can not mess them up. Reinstall all in the reverse order - 10 minute job.
