Opened up Dualsense to fix drift, right stick now stuck going up

Block Image

Hi,

I had stick drift that was unbearable recently, nothing could get it to stop so I decided to open up the controller and clean the potentiometers myself. Once I got that done and I even replaced the white thing inside the potentiometer with one from an old PS4 controller, I’m stuck with the right stick always going up. I’m not sure what I did wrong. I definitely didn’t break the green thing that latches onto the joystick since I barely moved it and I cleaned it pretty well. What could be the cause of this issue?

ViolentTubeGaming How did you clean it? Post some good picture of how this all looks and it'll help us to identify the " I even replaced the white thing" (wonder what you replaced there) and "the green thing"

@oldturkey03 hi, I added the images. The white thing is the circularish thing inside of the green ‘housing’ I’m not sure what they’re called. I definitely didn’t break it tho. All I’m getting on my controller is the right stick going straight up and even when I move it down it doesn’t register anything.

@hay yew I did clean it with the isopropyl alcohol but that’s not my issue here. It’s gone from normal drift to straight up just stuck going up all the time. I can’t move it down either.

ViolentTubeGaming how did you remove the white thing? That is all part of your potentiometer. Did you check with an multimeter to see if you still have variable resistance when you move it

ViolentTubeGaming check on something like this for a pretty good tutorial. My concern right now, is that it is the potentiometer that is causing the issues. Go ahead and measure those just to verify this but ultimately I suggest that you replace the joystick and see if that resolves the drift. Use this guide DualSense Joystick Replacement - iFixit Repair Guide for that. All guides for the joystick can be found on here DualSense Controller - iFixit which does include the disassembly for each step.
