Laptop is Powered On but Screen is Black and Wont Turn On

The power light and MP are green lit, and when I plug in the power source the battery green light comes on, but the screen is not responding. Last time the device was used was in April and did not have a problem. It has been plugged into the battery source since and not opened. I have tried taking the battery out and running just off the power source, but same result. I have tried turning off and on a few times, same result. My next thought was to let the battery die and then plug back in and see if that makes a difference? Any advice?

Hi @meterreader

Try connecting an external monitor to the laptop's vga port and check if it displays OK.

Press Fn + F3 (both together) to toggle the display between the laptop and the external monitor.

If there is no display on the external monitor then perhaps the laptop is not starting i.e. no POST (power on self test) before booting into the OS

If there is a display showing on the external monitor or if you have no external monitor that you can try, switch the display back to the laptop i.e. no display on external monitor, then try shining a torch (flashlight) at an angle close to the laptop's screen and check if you can see any images at all. They will be very faint if they are there so trying this in a darkened room may help to see them.

If there are images seen, then there is a backlight problem. This could be due to a faulty backlight power inverter in the laptop or a faulty CCFL lamp in the screen.

If there are no images seen then is may be a faulty LCD screen.
