Joy con dies repeatedly; dis/re-connecting battery fixes temporarily

The right (red) joy con on my Nintendo Switch has been dying repeatedly (unresponsive, not recognized by the console even when connected). When tinkering with it, I discovered that after opening it up and disconnecting the battery, after reconnecting the battery it came back to life and functioned normally again. This lasts for anywhere between a couple of weeks to a few hours before it dies again. Whereupon dis- and re-connecting the battery again restores it to life.

Any clues on what is happening here? The fix is pretty easy, but eventually the wear and tear of the repair is going to end up breaking a wire or other component.
