Laptop works on External monitor

I know this question has been asked before, however...

I have a macbook pro, liquid damage and as a result there is no image on the screen. When I shine a light onto the screen in a dimmed room there is nothing to be seen. When plugged into an external monitor it works "fine."

My question is: if there is an image on an external monitor does this mean the logic board is working which would result in changing the LCD? Or could it be a combination of lcd and logicboard issues?

Liquid damage is always iffy!

While it does sound like the display got the worse of it. The pathway between the main logic board to the LCD screen likely needs to be checked for corrosion damage. If that is all it is then the display assembly and the displays data cable would need to be replaced. It's also possible the backlight power circuit may need repairs within the main logic board, it could as simple as a blown fuse or again corrosion damage. But you'll need to =fully inspect the logic board by following this guide MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar 2017 Logic Board Replacement

The laptop has been in storage for about 3 years and was a week old when it happened so while it won't be a quick fix, I'll start sourcing some donor parts be and take it from there.
