MacBook Won't sleep when lid is closed

Where is the lid open/closing sensing mechanism and how could it be replaced, what would I need to make it work again or where do I need to look for damages

Sometimes we need to make an educated guess! I haven’t had to deal with the newer retina airs so I can’t tell you precisely where the Hall sensor and the magnet which is with in the lid is located.

But we do have a useful X-ray image which offers a useful clue! Reference this 2018 teardown image here we can see what looks like the magnets on the displays sides (one per each) which when closed matchup with the microphone logic board which is on the left side MacBook Air 13" (A2179, A2337 2020) Microphone I suspect the mic that’s closer to the lids edge and has the additional logic is where the Hall sensor is.
