My main board failed but the hard drive is still good I bought a external drive case that accepts the iPod drives. is there a program that will copy songs fron the hard drive to pc with out all the extra file names that Apple adds

see if this article helps.
if you're mounting the iPod's drive using an external drive case, you should be able to navigate directly to the directory containing your MP3 files and copy those over directly, if you don't care about recovering your playlist data.

Install the hard drive into a computer as a slave.Then you can copy your songs to paste them into your external hard drive.

The only way to do that would be by using a Zif to USB connector since the HDD does not have any other connection.
