A way to check new display?

Hello!!

I plan to soon replace my iPhone 4 screen for a color swap to red, Is there a way to just unplug the 2 ribbon cables that power the current screen and then just plug in the new one just to check it and make sure it works correctly? I would like to no because i do not want to tear the whole thing apart then put it back together just to see that the new display does not work correctly. I need help at this, can anyone maybe post direction's or maybe a link....please help,

Thanks

Hi,

It is possible, what you would need to do, the guide is here:

iPhone 4 (CDMA/Verizon) Screen Replacement

step 13 is removing the cover where the connectors are and the connectors are identified in step 15

the only issue I see is that if you don't remove the display assembly the 2 cables you will be unplugging and replacing may get in the way as they lift up and point out of the top of the phone, you can then plug in the 2 new connectors but will need to support the display assembly you are testing, turn on the phone, turn it back off etc.

good luck :)

So is there any harm in doing this and how should i hold the new screen, also there is a cover on the LCD do i have to remove this to test the screen?

there really is no harm in doing it, hold the display however is comfortable just try not to put to much pressure on the back of the lcd itself to prevent damage, you're only really holding it to make sure that the cables don't get pulled on you might be able to rest the screen on something small and sturdy instead. You can leave the plastic bits attached to test the part I usually remove these during the fitting just in case you have to return a dead part.

The protector is plastic and it is one the back of the LCD,then I can plug in the new display and set it on something while testing it?

Yeah that sounds right, I would leave the plastic protectors on both sides whilst testing incase you receive a dead part, all you need to ensure is you don't pull on the digitiser & LCD cables :)

Thank you for all your help:)
