Why is my screen flickering like this?

For the past few days my screen has started to do this weird flickering, at first it only happened for around 2-3 seconds once every few hours but now its progressed to the point where it's basically constantly like this. I tried reinstalling mac-os, doing a diagnosis, drive repair ect hoping it was some driver or software issue but with no success. My only guess is that either the screen is genuinely damaged or possibly the display cables are damaged, when the flickering happens its as if there is some burn in from my desktop icons but if i press on the screen there is no change which lead me to believe it might possibly be a software/display cable issue.
