Why would anyone buy a swollen Apple battery?

Do people "refurbish" swollen Apple batteries?
The reason I ask is because I was looking for a replacement battery for my A1502, and I came across this listing on eBay, but they're not new. They're selling BROKEN batteries.

Why in the world would anyone buy these in less they could refurbish them?

rickcostel just because somebody is selling, does not mean that anybody is buying :-) The only thing useful on those batteries are the control boards. Those are the once that have identifier IC's and the data for the battery etc. on it. You could now use those boards, reprogram them and connect to a non-Apple battery. It would give the wrong information (i.e. identify as original battery) etc. to the device that they are installed in. Ultimately, it all sounds like a shady deal.

Hey! I have a huge plot of land where a decommissioned nuke plant was, you want to buy it 🤠

Sadly, people sell the strangest things and in some cases deadly!

I think they listed it on ebay because they were replacing the battery and didn’t knew what to to with the old and got the idea that they are listing it on ebay to make some money. Imagine if someone bought it and thought that is a new battery

That's what I originally thought, so I checked and the seller is an electronics dealer called "EC DEALS" with 293 Followers, 11K Items sold, and an Embedded Controller as his profile picture.

It's essentially equivalent to me pulling the film door off of a camera with a terminal shutter defect to repair one which needs a good bit of love to fix the door and other redneck engineering attempts like a blob of super glue holding a broken eyepiece on the body but the camera getting the parts is good otherwise. I know I'm wasting most of the donor camera until I can strip it down and reuse more and it isn't the most efficient, but it is more or less the only way to get the part quickly.

These batteries are not supposed to be shipped, but people sneak them anyway or lie to the Post Office to avoid the UN3841 label with laptops. These need to be picked up locally and are only meant for refurbishers who want the control board.
