Never been a Mac owner, was given one but when I turn it on it asks for a password and I do not have it what can I do? If I guess too many times will it freeze anything up?

Note for new Mac users: You can find many answers on the Apple site, or on fine Mac focused sites like this. (They will come up if you type your problem into your favorite search engine.)
