Keyboard and trackpad issues

Original task: replace the battery in computer A. When done, the keyboard worked, but not the trackpad. I happen to have a spare MBP (computer B), missing only the trackpad cable. Verified that trackpad and keyboard in B worked with cable A. Swapped trackpads: computer A, with cable A and trackpad B - neither keyboard nor trackpad worked. ordered new trackpad and 2 x cables. A with new TP and cable: keyboard works, not trackpad.

Does anyone have any ideas? Tearing my hair out....

Not sure exactly what's causing this, but here are a few things you can try. First, reset the SMC and the NVRAM. Next, inspect the condition of the receiving connector for the trackpad cable on the logic board. Does it look clean and free of debris? Is the trackpad cable fully seated in the connector on the logic board and in the connector on the trackpad? Are both of the connector clasps in the closed position when the cable is inserted? Can you control the cursor with an external mouse connected? Is there any visible damage on the main logic board? Is the computer connecting to any Bluetooth devices nearby (it may be set to ignore input from the trackpad if it is connecting to a Bluetooth mouse or trackpad)? Have you verified that the keyboard cable is fully connected to the logic board and that it and its connector are clean and in good condition? These are a few things you could check. Best of luck!
