Removing the 4 bottom screws from Deck's backplate...

Hello. I got the JSAUX clear backplate to replace the Deck's original and tried to install it the other night but the 4 bottom screws, particularly the last 3 (the furthest one on the left side is very loose but won't come out of the hole) are not budging. If I have stripped any of them, the damage seems to be minimal.

I read that Valve used Loclite Blue and so I am wondering if I need to use a soldering iron to remove these pesky screws.

I am also wondering if I need to buy this site's Precision Screw Extractor Set because maybe the screws aren't budging because I have actually stripped them and just don't know it (top 4 came out super easily).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulty you're facing with the screws on your Steam Deck. It's important to handle delicate electronics with care to avoid causing damage. Here are a few suggestions that might help:

1. Use the right tools: Ensure that you are using the correct screwdriver size and type for the screws on your Steam Deck. Using an improperly sized or worn-out screwdriver can cause slipping and potential damage to the screw heads. If necessary, consider getting a precision screwdriver set with various sizes to ensure a proper fit.

2. Apply proper force: Make sure you are applying steady and gentle pressure while turning the screws. Avoid excessive force, as it can lead to stripping the screws or damaging the surrounding components. If a screw is stuck, try applying slight pressure while turning it counterclockwise to loosen it.

3. Consider a screw extractor set: If the screws are truly stripped and cannot be removed with a regular screwdriver, a screw extractor set could be a helpful tool. These sets usually include special bits designed to grip and remove stripped screws. However, using a screw extractor requires caution, as it involves drilling into the screw head. If you're not confident in your ability to use a screw extractor, it may be best to seek assistance from a professional technician.

4. Seek professional help: If you're unable to remove the screws or if you're concerned about causing further damage, it's recommended to reach out to a professional technician or contact the manufacturer's support for assistance. They may have specialized tools and expertise to address the issue without causing additional harm.

Remember, working with sensitive electronic devices can be delicate, and it's crucial to proceed with caution to avoid further complications.

Thank you for the response. I actually used the screwdriver that came with the backplate and, as mentioned prior, it worked for the top 4 screws.

Hi

If you aren’t having much luck getting those pesky acres out I would recommend using a screwdriver with a bigger handle

I find this works 9/10 aslong as the screws aren’t stripped out completely

Doing this applys more torque which helps put more force into turning the screw

if that doesn’t work try putting a couple drops of isopropyl alcohol onto the screw to see if that frees it up

Hopefully this helps

Any questions please ask

Thanks:-)

HelloMacOS: Thank you.

Does the percentage of the isopropyl alcohol matter? Can I just use rubbing alcohol instead?

Percentage shouldn’t matter but generally the higher the more effective:-)
