Restore wont take hold

I have an ipod that I've restored three times now and when re-booted will go back to the restore screen again. I've restored using itunes in both normal mode and by putting it into DFU. I don't know the history of the ipod but it does have the moisture indicator red.

I've also used iReb to see if I can get it out of the restore loop and that didn't help either. Is this Ipod a lost cause? Should I keep restoring it? Should I try an earlier firmware than the latest? Any other suggestions?

Did you try the fix recovery option in redsn0w?

Good idea, but didn't work.

With your idea I did try the latest redsnow but it doesn't support autodetect on the 2g so I couldn't use it. This led me to try tiny umbrella recovery and it didn't fix problem either.

Hmm... Maybe try a custom firmware? or a older redsn0w?

I found an older firmware which seemed to work. I put it on and ipod booted to main screen and I was able to put some songs and apps on it. Unfortunately, even though I was able to boot a few times immediately after that, when I booted the next day it went into recovery mode again.
