Battery doesn't charge, help me :)

Hi. I have an issue with my ibook g3. I got it from my unckle, who thought it was broken ( I've fixed the graphic chip problem), so I got it for free. Battery charges up to 12%, but i have to unplug and plug the charger cable any time because charging stops after less than minute any time. So i was wondering if there's any chance to bring back this battery to life, because there is no sense to buy a new battery for this old computer. Battery was new, but the computer was unused abuot a year.
