Replaced logic board, still getting red X

Hi

I replaced the logic board, and have left it charged (not to the computer) overnight. I still get the red X but can't get it to go into disc mode by holding down the menu button (after toggling the hold). Grrr....

It's a 2007 160Gb classic. Please help! I was very excited to have replaced the logic board (first time ever repairing an electronic device!).

Generally, I believe the red X indicates a bad harddrive. Click one of the buttons and hold the iPod up to your ear- if the harddrive is bad, you should hear some grinding and clicking.

Nice job with the replacement! It sounds like you did it correctly if it's booting.

no grinding - hear the record player sound when holding the menu+centre but nada after that. Trying the zip lock freezer thing. I will followup on my progress

The red - X definitely indicates a problem with the hard drive. Before replacing a 160gb hd though (spendy$$), I would make sure all your connections are tight and connect. Disconnect and reconnect the drive to make sure all is in correct.
