Last night I did a hard power off of my IMAC, since then it doesn't boot properly, I get the folder with the slash through it. I can boot from the DVD (leopard OSX) but the hard drive is not recognizable in the disk utility nor in the install script.
Any ideas. and I did not practice good computing, no backup of the hard disk, would like to recover what I can ..

There are data recovery programs and companies - the compaines are expensive, and the programs require a working disk. You might try putting the drive in an external case.... to see if it's recognizable that way.
