My ps3 60gb will not read the disc some times
will this mean i will have to replace the disc drive or just clean the lens

i would go with oldturkey03's answer and clean the lens first but then if the problem still persists then I would replace the laser.

I have cleaned the lens and now it works thanks for that
luke boothman, great job. All you have left to do is to accept the answer that helped the most:-) This way, anyone with a similar problem, will know what works.

luke boothman, since it is an intermittent failure, I would clean the lens and see if that helps.
