I bought apple TV 2nd generation in Jan 2012,it was working well. Last month I downloaded the update version 5. After this I can only see Computer and Settings Icon. Tried restore, resetting, direct ethernet connection, thru itunes downloaded the updates with micro usb. nothing works. Can someone help us?

Just connect a power cable (NO HDMI) and the micro USB cable and the restore might get through. If Apple TV 2 doesn’t show up in iTunes after hooking it up to the Mac, you may have to set it to DFU mode first:
1. Disconnect the HDMI, power and USB cables
2. Wait for 10 seconds
3. Reconnect the USB cable
4. Immediately hold the menu and play buttons on the remote for 15 seconds
5. Apple TV 2 should now start flashing the LED wildly and appear in iTunes with the restore button.
If it still doesn’t show up, maybe there’s something wrong with your Micro USB cable.
Get in contact with Apple - that unit should still be under warranty.

I had same issue today. I tried several times steps above but it did not resolve the issue. I was able to get it working by -->
1) Click on Setting
2) Find 'Reset' and reset the Apple TV
3) Reconnect WiFi and password
Now you can see all the icons.
You will need to renter password for each app such as Netflix.
My suggestion is to try the technique above first an dif it fails Reset.

I had the same issue with my ATV 3 right from the start. I tried several suggestions found searching the web: -restart, restore, update software, unplug cables and wait 30 sec..... etc. Nothing worked.
What did work however was:
Settings > iTunes Store > LOCATION
Needs to be set to "United States"
really not what you would think would matter but it worked (btw I do not live in USA)

I live in the states. So I changed it to canada ( wild guess) and bingo! It worked!
So freaking crazy. I just changed mine to Canada too and it worked.

Canada worked for me too then I went back and changed to US and still worked. EXCEPT, a lot of my apps are missing (showtime, HBO, Hulu, and a lot more...) any ideas about this? Some new ones are there too.

I have no solution, but I just wanted to confirm that on my Gen 3 ATV, some of the channels have disappeared too (Hulu, Sky News, etc). In my experience, it's good to know that I'm not the only one with this specific problem, even if there's no immediate solution, so......... :-/
Judging by the number of comments that were posted in just the past couple of hours, I gotta think that something messed up on Apple's server side that messed up our ATV in turn. :(

Same issue. Changed location menu came up. But no Hulu or some of the others.
Same issue, thanks for the tip. I'm in the US, but switching Settings > iTunes Store > Location to Canada, and leaving it as Canada, seems to work as far as getting to Netflix, if that's all you're planning to watch right now.
Im having the same issue. Mush be something on apples side. All my apps (Hulu, HBO, etc) have disappeared. Hopefully they realize everyone is having this issue and fix it soon. Let me know if you figure out how to bring the apps back

At least I'm not the only one!! And here I was thinking my ATV just didn't like last night's Daily Show as it died in the middle of it.
FYI, the Network Test failed my first try, restarting my router got it to pass just now though. AirPlay seems to be working fine, so I'm just going to run Hulu from our iPad for now as it sounds like changing countries causes some different app problems. I've got a 3rd Gen ATV btw.

Switching to Canada helped us too, but showtime, Hulu, HBO Go are gone. Anyone have a solution?

Hey! Just wanted to add my voice and let you know that it's happening to my 3rd gen AppleTV too. Did everything and finally came here to see other people have experienced the same thing.

Also having this issue. Changing to canada and back worked for netflix... hope they fix it so hulu and abc can come back :(

I am having the same issue tonight, it's Nov 1, 2016. I was watching HBO NOW at 7pm, went to dinner, and now all a sudden, ATV only gives me "computers" and "setting option." I spent 2.5 hours restoring the ATV. When it came back on, same issues. I changed it to Canada, under location and it works but the apps look different and my HBO NOW is gone.

Got all my apps to return @ 12:50pm central by streaming my google play music acct from my phone over airplay. After that Hulu and hbo etc. all returned.

I am having the same issue but I do not have the option to choose another country! When I go to the "location" in "i tunes store" its blank! I can't even sign in to itunes! HELP PLEASE!!!

SAME HERE! Very frustrating. Any advice?
Having same promblem with my ATV 2. Was only getting Computer and Settings app and tried all the above mentioned troubleshoots, however I was unable to change the location in my settings as it was blank.
Logging out of my wifi network and logging back in again seemed to solve this for me!

I had the same thing tonight. The change to Canada was temporary (on a restart, back to no channels except computer and settings), and lost some channels (HBO)
I just did a full RESTORE. I had to sign back into iCloud and my WiFi.
HOWEVER, MY APPLE TV IS NOW FIXED and is back to normal with US as region, and ALL channels showing as before.

I solved this problem by actually changing 'Location' in iTunes Store from United States to Namibia (chosen by random)

This worked for me too. Switching to from US to Namibia (I didn't try another country) and then back to United States did the trick.

KEY thing to note is iTUNES store settings, this guy has it right, other ones just sat change region and that doesn't work, it specifically has to be Settings>iTunes Store (not general region)>Location. If it's already on US choose a random and then go back. It works.

It restored everything but Hulu. Does anyone know how to get Hulu back :(!

I fixed mine by changing location too. Is this an issue for all Apple TVs right now?? My HBO Now and Showtime apps are gone tho...
