Why is my home button not working after front screen replacement?

I have a used iPod Touch 3G I got from someone and it came with a dead strip at the bottom. Which means I couldn't press ANYTHING on the bottom row, space, dock with the 4 apps, etc. Slide to unlock worked for a while, and it broke later on. I just replaced it with a new front screen "digitizer" I got from eBay just 10 minutes ago. I opened it up, plugged in the ribbon cable. Then snapped it back in. Everything works now :), except for the home button. The home button when pressed is very soft unlike a working iPod/iPhone where you can hear it click. So what is wrong? I have a spare thing for the home button (home button itself, the clip thing that is on the back of the screen)

Do I have to take it apart again? :(

The mid-frame gets ruined in the process.

Edit: The home button clicks now when pressed.

You may have damaged the contacts between the home button and the lower portion of the phone. I think you'll need to open it up again and see if they have been bent out of shape or broken.

Thank you for the help.

I actually fixed it by opening it back up and taking off the current mid-frame and adding a new one to it. After that, EVERYTHING works. Thank you again.
