Dead screen - replaced screen, replaced flex cable...what to try next?

I have a 13" macbook air A2179, (the 2020 model that is intel based).

The screen stopped working about a month ago.

Tried resetting NVRAM, booting to recovery mode etc to no avail. The computer will still output to an external display via HDMI.

Next, tried replacing the screen assembly (i.e., the entire top half of the clamshell). Ended up trying twice with screen assemblies from different vendors but neither worked. Still getting a blank screen but interestingly the camera does work.

Also tried replacing the LCD flex cable that runs from the bottom of the logic board (part 821-01552A).

Anything else to try for this situation?

The camera is showing a clear image on the display or just the camera light is on? Is there a very very faint image on the screen at all? Maybe need to shine a light on it to see as It is likely to be a backlight issue which would require some board level work and diagnostics.

Thanks. The camera shows a clear image (on the facetime app). This was with the 2 replacement displays, unfortunately I didn't think to test this when the original one stopped working.

And I can actually see a very faint image on the screen of the login screen. This is shining a light from the front at an angle (not through the back at the apple symbol which you see mentioned in various places).

Is there a link to board level diagnostics to try? Or are we now in the realm of needing specialized equipment? I just have a multimeter...regardless thanks for your help.

You can search Macbook Air 2020 Backlight fix and there should be some videos on it, seems certain the backlight is your issue from what yo described.
