Earpiece assembly removal not attached to screen

Hello, I am in the process of replacing my old iPhone X front screen. Waiting for the ifixit order. However, looking at the teardown manual part when taking off the front screen was different for me. My earpiece assembly was not connected to the screen. The only two connectors attached the screen were the two for power and digitizer? How do I remove this assembly from the phone housing

I don’t want to be too forceful and tear the cable.

You've made a common mistake in removing the screen, which consists of separating the screen's mounting frame from the screen instead of the phone. On OEM screens this mostly happens when you forget to remove the Pentalobe screws at the bottom of the phone, but I've seen it happen on aftermarket displays where they didn't use a good grade of adhesive on the screen frame.

The fix is fairly simple; just repeat the screen removal procedure on the frame this time; go around the edge of the phone and pry up the metal frame that's been left on the phone instead of coming off with the screen. That'll release the front sensor assembly as well and you'll be able to unplug it.

No harm done since you're replacing the screen anyway, so don't worry about it, just transfer the front sensors to the new screen once you get the frame off and you'll be good to go.

Thanks for the explanation! I’ll have to look into how I disassembled it when I get the new screen. I did take out the 2 bottom pentalobes but maybe missed something during the process as you said.

@speedworth There's not necessarily any reason to believe you did anything wrong; the normal screen removal procedure depends on the frame sticking to the display more firmly than it sticks to the phone and as I mentioned, sometimes the screen adhesive is stronger than what's used on the frame; in that case you get what happened to you.
