Firewire target mode not recognizing target disc

Okay....one mac with flashing question drive running on power supply, other mac running on battery...did firewire target mode and began to copy system to bad drive with superduper....firewire target mode recognized bad drive but the battery died and had to stop...now I have swapped DC boards and have both macs running on power supplies....:)....yay! Two macs!!..but one still has flashing question mark and now good mac does not recognize bad mac in target mode....aarrggh...any suggestions on how to 1) get good to recognize target firewire drive. 2)possibly boot from USB minidrive with copied system folder on it, since dvd drive is non-functional on bad mac, or 3)hmmm...?

Aha! After a few times got it to recognize...it has the system library on it and when I use disk utility it says 'no repairs necessary'...I understand it should be a 160gb hd but it only shows that it is a 74.5 gb drive(?)...I believe it still has the flashing question mark when I try to boot normally....suggestions on how to repair or get it to boot normally?

In superduper there is no 'clone' command. I can only copy my 'harddrive' to the target disc...is this correct?

Copying your hard drive to the other drive "is cloning". Start them both up again. You got an incomplete, so I would just start all over with a re-format. If you used the "write zeros" option the first time you should be OK. If not, please follow the directions from your first question. After it's finished check your hard drive target disk size. A 80 gigabyte drive formats out at about 74.5 GB. If your original drive has less than 74.5 Gigs on it, go ahead and clone to the target drive, if not move some of your movies and/or music off it to an external hard drive. Once it's small enough to fit then run the SuperDuper.

Any reason for the target to read at 80 when it is a 160? My cloning should be finished in just a few and then I'll see if it'll boot up on it's own. My original drive is a 60 so I just cloned the whole thing...

what makes you think it's a 160? There was a 120 GB recognition issue with the early G4s but I don't remember a 80 GB limitation.

I think it's a 160 because the packaging from the ebay sender says it's a WD1600bevt-22scto 160 gb sata hd....but system profiler says it's a hts421280h9at00...and reads 74.4 for capacity. I don't really care since both computers are now up and running!!! and I didn't buy the harddrive it came with the computer I bought from someone else...it turns out to be a 933 mhz 14" g4...my original is a 1.42....but hey, two g4s and I only spent 90 bucks...thanks for helping me through the whole thing...I'd still be scratching my head without you and ifixit...now to see about installing a superdrive and fixing the airport hardware...hmmmm!?

Get an external DVD drive that you can use on these and any future Macs. It's cheaper, faster, longer lasting and no installation. I like the LaCie drives. http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product...
