Sorry your system can’t support Sonoma natively, the highest it supports is MacOS 11.x (Big Sur). Using a shim service you can run newer macOS releases, but your hardware now comes into play! If your system only has 4GB of RAM I would stick with Big Sur and call it a day, if your system has 8GB but has a small SSD drive 256GB or less again stick with Big Sur.
If you’ve upgraded the drive you can use OpenCore to run a newer macOS releases, just be careful you aren’t expecting newer features to work that require hardware your system doesn’t offer.
For most this system is just not powerful enough beyond simple web surfing or writing and image processing. It’s not powerful enough for online or down loaded heavy graphics game play.
